Skedaddle is excited to open our British Columbia franchise in Coquitlam. This diverse city is part of the tri-cities and sits near Vancouver, giving it access to big-city amenities and leading universities in the area, such as the University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, and British Columbia Institute of Technology.

However, Coquitlam isn’t just defined by its neighbours. Its history dates back 9,000 years to when the Coast Salish people first established its territory. Named for the Salish phrase for “red fish up the river,” Coquitlam today is home to hundreds of businesses and retailers, including the Marine Propulsion division of Rolls-Royce.

Skedaddle in Coquitlam

Coquitlam is home to Skedaddle’s first franchise in British Columbia. Alex Ritz, the owner and operator of the franchise, has proven his commitment to conservation and wildlife in the area through both his educational and professional experiences. He studied wildlife biology and conservatism as an undergraduate, where he helped model mountain pine beetle expansion across Canada. Alex’s work to attain a master’s degree in forestry included researching aerial moose surveys.

While at Environment and Climate Change Canada, Alex served as a conservation planner and wildlife biologist. An alumnus of the Ocean Bridge Canada Conservation Corps, Alex has continued his dedication to conservation into this profession. With the needed knowledge, skills, and experience to help homeowners with their wildlife issues, Alex is establishing Skedaddle’s footprint in Coquitlam. His team of focused and friendly technicians will also help him as part of this new journey.

Wildlife in Coquitlam

With Coquitlam situated on nature’s doorstep, it is common to come across wildlife perusing neighbourhoods in search of food or shelter. Depending on the time of year and day, it is possible to see a diverse variety of species in the area: bears, cougars, coyotes, crows, deer, pigeons, raccoons, squirrels and skunks.

While some of these animals are more likely to stop you in your tracks than others, it is essential to take some basic preventative measures to avoid your home or property inadvertently inviting any unwanted guests. Securing garbage and removing pet food or fallen fruit can help deter animals from using your yard as a food source.

Skedaddle’s Process

Humankind’s interaction with domesticated animals like cats and dogs can sometimes cause us to overrate our ability to connect with animals outside our home. Always remember, wild animals are unpredictable and potentially dangerous. It is important that you never touch or handle wildlife in your yard. Otherwise, you or the animal could be hurt.

Skedaddle has trained technicians who specialize in handling these situations with the utmost care and respect. After reaching out to us, the first step in our process is a thorough assessment of your property and the overall wildlife or pest situation. Together, we will customize a safe and humane strategy to remove any unwanted wildlife, as well as a prevention plan to protect your home against future intrusions. With this plan also comes a written, personalized quote with no obligations.

We treat all animals with respect so we can minimize their stress while safely removing them from your attic, walls, chimney or any other parts of your home and property. Once removed, we will take care of any contaminants the animals left behind to help ensure the safety of your family and home. Cleaning up and removing odours left behind will help make your home less attractive to other neighbourhood animals in search of their next home.

Finally, we will analyze your home for potential entryways that can be used by pests and wildlife, including ones that are not always obvious to most homeowners. With weather-resistant screens and other coverings, we will help keep wildlife from entering your home even during harsh weather.

Carter from Skedaddle inspected our garage and exterior of our home and consulted on infiltration points by rodents. He was patient with my questions and thorough so it was worth the cost, just under $100. Out of 3 other pest control companies, they were the only one whose strategy was to seal exterior infiltration points.

A mama squirrel had set up a nest in our attic. Skedaddle staff removed the mama and two babies ethically and safely, then sealed up our roof to prevent further incursions. Great job!

Alex arrived on time after phoning ahead, did a full inspection around the shed where we suspected that we had a family of skunks living underneath. He confirmed our suspicions by using a heat camera inside the shed. In view of the fact that we are in the process of replacing the fence and shed he deemed it as an un-necessary expense…
