Destructive Nocturnal Visitors
Raccoons may look cute and cuddly, and the videos posted on the internet of them falling through office ceilings are very funny, but you really don’t want them making your commercial building their home. It’s not safe. At best they can be a destructive nuisance, at worst they can carry diseases such as rabies and a rare form of roundworm (Baylisascaris) that can lead to neurological damage, or even death, in people. According to companies that specialize in raccoon removal in Milwaukee, the longer raccoons live in a commercial building, the more likely they are to fall through the ceiling. This happens either because they eventually step on a weak or loose tile or because the build-up of urine and scat on the ceiling becomes too heavy for the tiles. Due to raccoons being nocturnal animals they usually drop in at night, when offices are empty and are not discovered until morning. During this time they can wreak havoc in their attempt to escape, ripping up blinds, carpets, and papers and just generally leaving destruction and chaos in their wake. Raccoons can also cause major property destruction while living in roof spaces. They are strong enough to rip up shingles, flashing and aluminium, and they will easily chew through electrical wires to clear access to den sites. Frayed wires pose a serious fire hazard, especially if close to flammable insulation material.
