PROUDLY SERVING • The Greater Milwaukee Area

As the largest metropolitan area in Wisconsin and one of the urban hubs of the Great Lakes region, Milwaukee is a city that boasts a rich and diverse history in both its industry and people. The network of rivers (Milwaukee, Menomonee, Kinnickinnic, Root) running through the area originally facilitated the city’s industrial and economic development. Milwaukee has a rich and illustrious history that saw its transformation from a frontier trading post into a modern metropolis. The population grew rapidly throughout the 19 and early 20th centuries, and the greater metropolitan area centered on Milwaukee is now home to more than 1.5 million people.

Since the city is located in an ecological tension zone and is surrounded by fertile prairie soil, agriculture was historically one of the most important sources of income for its inhabitants. Many classic Wisconsin landmarks reside in Milwaukee, including Miller Park, the Milwaukee Art Museum, and the historic Pabst and Miller breweries. It also has one of the best-developed park systems in the U.S. with more than 150 parks and 15,000 acres of green area. Milwaukee has a lively ecosystem that largely extends into the populated areas and contains countless species of plants, birds, and animals. That’s why it’s pretty common to encounter wildlife such as squirrels, raccoons, possum, foxes, coyotes and deer living amongst this human-dominated land. There are even several bat species and flying squirrels that call Milwaukee home!

Milwaukee citizens have to be prepared to encounter wildlife in everyday activities and may find animals living in their basements or under front porches. When conflicts of this nature occur, an easy solution is at hand – Skedaddle Humane Wildlife Control can ensure that any trespassing animals will be safely and humanely relocated from your property.

This is where I would like to introduce myself, my name is Marcus Mueller, and I was born and raised in West Allis, WI. Allow me to share what makes me well suited to lead an enterprise as unique as Skedaddle Humane Wildlife Control in Milwaukee.

I developed a passion for the great outdoors and American wildlife from an early age. After my graduation from High School, I had the opportunity to pursue my true interests, so I enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) to study wildlife ecology. It was here that I became fascinated with urban wildlife and the capacity of various species to adapt to human-dominated ecosystems and survive.

My first practical experience came during the summers of 2011 and 2012 while working as an intern for the Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS), a local organization based in Milwaukee that operates a wildlife hotline for citizens and handles more than 12,000 calls every year. Part of my responsibilities were to communicate with local residents and assist them with various types of wildlife-related incidents – from raccoons in attics to woodchucks damaging properties, and everything in between. While this work was very inspiring and instructional for me, I still desired to join a company that truly provided humane service that ensured animals were treated well throughout the process, as opposed to being simply captured and relocated.

The next step for me came after my graduation from college, with a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Ecology degree. In this period, I was assigned to be a crew leader for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and worked as a technician for the Milwaukee County Parks Natural Areas Program. This experience gave me a taste of the real problems on the ground and reaffirmed my commitment to wildlife control as my true calling. Armed with this knowledge, I entered a graduate program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW), earning a Master of Science degree in the same field based on my study of urban red foxes and coyotes in Madison, WI.

While I was completing my academic training, my heart remained in Milwaukee and drew me towards fieldwork. I never gave up on my idea of bringing humane wildlife control to this area, and I searched for similar projects elsewhere. That’s how I first found out about Skedaddle Humane Wildlife Control, a Canadian company that operates on exactly the same model I had in mind. I immediately established a great working relationship with its founder and CEO, Mr. Bill Dowd, who was kind enough to share with me his wealth of experience acquired over nearly 30 years of Skedaddle’s existence. Working in tandem, we quickly came up with a plan to bring this extraordinary service to Milwaukee and ensure its long-term viability in this region.

In November 2017, my dream finally came true as Skedaddle Milwaukee officially opened its doors for business. From now on, Milwaukee residents will have a professional company specializing in humane wildlife solutions at their disposal to assist them with any situations that involve wild animals. This allows us to contribute to keeping Milwaukee just as green and animal-friendly as it’s always been while eliminating the slightest source of inconvenience for the human inhabitants.

It’s a great responsibility and a great honor to be able to do exactly what my education prepared me for, and I am certain that I will be successful with this ambitious endeavor.
