Hamilton/Burlington SPCA Trap Notice

TrapThe Hamilton/Burlington SPCA is conducting an investigation in the illegal use of leg hold/ steel jaw traps in the area. These are cruel mechanical devices, cause severe pain and will indiscriminately cripple or kill any animal (domestic or wild) which happens to get caught in the device.

There has recently been an incident where a small animal has been picked up from the area which had been caught in such a device. The animal was able to pull itself free with the trap still attached to its leg. The location or person responsible was not able to be determined.

Bill Dowd, president and CEO of Skedaddle Humane Wildlife Control says the use of these traps in ineffective and extremely dangerous.

“Anytime you set a trap to try and catch wildlife, you’re gambling with the chance of catching any number of animals including cats, dogs, or other wildlife. Besides this, these traps are extremely inhumane.” says Dowd.

Anyone with any information related to this matter please contact the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA Investigation department at 905-574-7722 ext. 401 or the Ministry of Natural Resources Violation Reporting line at 1-877-847-7667.

These traps are illegal to be used in residential areas and are prohibited to be owned by the public.
All information is kept anonymous.

Thank you for your support in this matter.
